Flash based CMS goodness.

List of Flash-Based content management systems

We have been looking around lately for decent Flash content management systems for one of our clients. There are a few attractive looking solutions around, so we thought we’d share some of them with you.

  • FlashMoto - We have had a look at the demo of this one and it looks really solid for the $199 license. Not sure how easy it is to use, but it’s well put together.
  • FlashBlocks - Not too sure about this one. We have heard that it’s tricky to set up. It also looks a tiny bit limited.
  • FCMS 2 — Looks OK. Perhaps a bit limited. Noticing a theme here? Flash CMS systems are a bit thin on the ground.
  • Saffron Flash CMS — We wouldn’t use this one as their site is off-puttingly corporate, and the video presentation is patronising. Do companies still present themselves like this?
  • FancyCMS — This one is free, so we’ll be downloading it and giving it a test-drive. It actually looks more like an .swf publishing platform rather than a proper CMS. But as it’s free we’ll give it the once over.
  • GAIA Flash Framework — This isn’t strictly a CMS either, but we use this excellent framework for all our Flash-based projects now as it’s really robust and follows OO patterns. It’s completely open source and totally brilliant.
  • Coma Tool — The website for this system doesn’t really give much away and is a little limited. If the CMS is anything like the site we won’t be checking this one out.
  • Drupal (Druplash) — Yes you heard us, DRUPAL. It is entirely feasible to use Drupal as your base content management system. We think this is very interesting. Geeks are calling it Druplash.

If anyone knows of any others, please leave a comment with a link.

Note: This isn’t an invitation for people to rant about HTML vs Flash. That argument is so damn old it’s boring and we’ll not approve those comments. The answer is: Always use the right tools for the job.
